A Journey of Discovery: Stradbroke Primary Academy Receives a Visit from Mobile Planetarium
BackOn Wednesday 31st January, Stradbroke Primary Academy had a visit from the mobile planetarium. All year groups across the school were involved in this exciting and enriching learning experience.
The visit complemented many areas of the curriculum across all year groups, from reception to Year 6, including subjects like science and early years lessons. The sessions included a focus on ‘The Solar System and beyond’, ‘Constellations, Sun and Moon’ and ‘Sun, Moon and the Planets’. Pupils had the opportunity to enter the planetarium and sit or lay down to gaze up into the night sky through the large telescope. They were able to witness the night sky as day turned into night and then zoom further into the universe to look at the planets in our solar system and features beyond this. It also gave them the opportunity to safely observe the true surface of the sun.
Whilst in the planetarium pupils were also shown the various phases of the moon, including lunar eclipses and learnt why the moon appears in different colours at various times throughout the year. Phenomena such as the northern lights ‘Aurora Borealis’ shown during their session certainly brought awe and wonder to the experience. Pupils in each class were also able to ask the expert as many questions as they liked to help develop and enhance their knowledge on this subject. A thoroughly amazing experience had by all.
